Never eat anything you cannot identify with 100% certainty.

This is a guide, not a substitute for expert identification. Foraging guides - including this one - can contain errors. If you are not completely certain of an identification, do not eat it. Cross-check against at least two independent sources, and when in doubt, consult a local foraging expert or an experienced forager in person before eating anything wild.

Hainault Forest is a surviving fragment, now around 135 hectares, of a much larger ancient forest largely cleared after 1851 - a loss of habitat that helped spark the movement to save nearby Epping Forest. It is managed jointly by the Woodland Trust and Vision Redbridge as Hainault Forest Country Park.
